The government has decided to abolish road tax on vehicles weighing up to 12 tonnes

On Wednesday 9 March, the Government approved the first measures to reduce the impact of the rapid increase in fuel prices. In addition to the cancellation of compulsory addition of bio-components to fuels, the government has also responded to the high prices by abolishing the road tax for cars and trucks weighing up to 12 tonnes. The government sees the measure as helping small and medium-sized companies in particular, and the cancellation is intended to be permanent.

An amendment to the Road Tax Act, which is necessary to implement the above, is currently being prepared by the Ministry of Finance. The intention is to cancel the advance payment for the first quarter of 2022 already, due on 15 April 2022. If the amendment is not approved in time, a general pardon of the Minister of Finance has been promised.

Waiver of advance payments (not tax payments as such) for vehicles over 12 tonnes is also currently under consideration.
