Reporting employment commencement and electronic sick leave certificate

The ministry of labour and social affairs has presented a proposal for introduction of an electronic sick leave certificate, more specifically its 1st stage relating especially to the following areas:

  • the attending physician will be obliged to report the decision on the beginning and the decision on the end of temporary incapacity for work in electronic form
  • the option of the attending physician deciding about the establishment of temporary incapacity for work even prior to the date he detected it will in all cases be subject to preliminary approval from the sickness insurance authority

At the same time, the proposal also expects a shortening of the deadline for the employer to report commencement of work by the employee, which establishes participation in sickness insurance, from the current 8 days to the workday following after the date of commencement of work.

The draft bill is currently subject to consultation. We will thus continue to monitor further development for you.
