Import of cheap fuel from Poland

Share article:

Poland has adopted a government anti-inflationary measure in the form of reduction of the VAT rate on fuel from 23% to 8%, which will apply until the end of 2022. As a result, fuel prices have dropped there significantly. The current prices in Poland are thus around CZK 28 per litre of petrol and diesel, while in the Czech Republic the price per litre of petrol or diesel is up to CZK 10 higher in some cases. It is not surprising that many Czech people travel to Poland to buy fuel.

However, the customs administration has informed that strict checks are being carried out at the Polish border. If drivers do not have all the supporting documents, the diesel they have purchased may be confiscated. At the same time, the vehicle may be seized by the customs office and excise duty may be levied. However, only drivers who import fuel into the Czech Republic in other ways than the normal built-in tanks of the vehicle and in a quantity exceeding 20 litres are at risk. If the permitted limit (a maximum of 20 litres) is exceeded, the driver must have a tax receipt, proof of sale or proof of transport, and these documents must comply with all the statutory requirements. The document issued by Polish service stations does not usually contain these statutory requirements.
